A few days ago, I asked David if he wanted to do this 9K run/walk for Breast Cancer with me on Saturday. He said he would, "if he didn't have a tee time". So when he got a call Friday night inviting him to golf the next morning---and was tempted to go---I reminded him that I asked first. I explained that I'm seriously starting to feel like a golfer's widow here and that it's not really fair that all the time I spend with him has to be after he's finished 18 holes. I wasn't really being unreasonable--he had just come home from golfing when we were having this conversation! (Now it's Sunday morning and guess where David is... waiting to get on at hole 1 probably)
So, guilt got the best of David, and he decided he'd join me at the run. Actually, he said he would drive me there and pick me up at the end (it ended at a different base and they would bus people back). It was a small victory, but a victory nonetheless. While we were milling around the parking lot before the run began, David decided he would run too! He told me to run ahead though because he doesn't really like running with me if I pressure him to go faster ;) I play little games with myself, like "just run fast until you pass the girl with the orange shorts" and if I try including David in the games, he says, "I don't care about the girl with the orange shorts!"
Wow, I did NOT realize how hot it still would be for running outside (I've been doing most of my runs on the treadmill). The run started at 7 and I was finished by 8, but it was HOT. Too hot. So hot I could barely stand it. Normally, I would not allow myself to walk, but I'm a very smart person... I found my loophole in my 'no walking allowed' theory. What if I'm walking just to be kind to others? As in, what if I walk just long enough for David to catch up with me so I can run the rest of the way with him? (at a slower pace too, might I add) So, that's what I did. I walked and talked with a couple of teachers from K.E.S. and when David passed by, I wrapped up my conversation and went to catch him. We ran together for a little while, but right towards the end when I like to speed up, David was slowing down, so I left... but running together even for a little while was a good excuse for me to slow down!
I finished the 5.5 miles in 57something. Not fast, but not too bad, I guess, when it includes a 10 minute walk. And, most importantly, I contributed $10 for Breast Cancer.

Timing is everything
If there's anything I should have all figured out by now is that in a military community, timing is everything. I try to rush into the commissary before all the Active Duty get out of work at 4:15 so they won't be in line ahead of me. Same with the post office. I never go to the BX between 11:30 and 1 on a weekday because if I do, I'll have to relinquish my spot in line to anyone in uniform (and also because I'm at work at that time anyway). I always try to be in a building at 5:00 p.m. (sorry, 1700 hours) so I don't have to stand outside or pull to the side of the road while the national anthem and the Japanese national anthem are played (not that I have anything against national anthems, it's just that I usually have to really go to the bathroom at this time of day). But the one I hadn't figured out until today was that if I pull up to a certain stop sign on base at 3:23 pm I will have to wait for about 40 school aged children to cross the street before I can go any further.

I am a domestic goddess
Thursday morning, I woke up and made Oatmeal-Banana Cakies. (They were supposed to be cookies, but they're really soft, so I decided to call them cakies instead). Then after work, I went to the commissary for some groceries. Came home and washed a sink full of dishes. Then I made dinner- Spicy Sausage & Pepper Stew- and did more dishes! This morning, I popped right out of bed (well, after hitting snooze 3 times) and put a load of laundry in! I wonder if this newfound domesticity will last all the way through folding that load of laundry when I come home this afternoon. Or maybe I'm coming down with something...

Cranky Sores
I have two monster canker sores in my mouth (just what you wanted to read about, right?). It's really getting annoying... I feel like I might be getting a cold, but I don't want to drink any orange juice because it will irritate the canker sores even more. It hurts to eat, it hurts to talk (one is under my tongue-yeeeouch!). Aimee R. the P-I-T (Pharmacist in Training) said to dissolve a baby asprin on the sore. This helps only temporarily. I also have anbesol type gel that makes my whole mouth numb. And I know just why I got them too... David has this fabulous foamy toothpaste that made my mouth feel so clean. So I started using it once a day and using my all-natural no Sodium Laurel Sulfate toothpaste any other time I brushed. Well, the toothpaste wasn't bothering me at all, so I decided to use it every time I brushed... and now here I am. You give me an inch, I take a mile... and I've got cranky sores to prove it.
And you thought I'd have nothing interesting to write about...

Steak, Mac & Cheese
So Maria called me at 2:30 a.m. (her time) and told me big news... she got her engagement ring tonight! I can't wait to see it, but I'll have to wait anyway til the wedding in May. She and Raul have been engaged for like 5 months or something but she's been waiting-very patiently-for the ring. It sounds gorgeous- a 3-stone princess cut with pave' diamonds too. I told her if she decided she didn't like it, she could give it to me. She was pretty surprised to receive the ring tonight--it wasn't a special occasion or anything. They were just hanging out at Raul's new place (soon to be Maria's new house too!) and she was cooking steak and macaroni & cheese.
David told me he's making dinner tonight--guess what we're having--steak! I requested mac & cheese too... do you think there's a chance I'll get a new ring tonight???
Also, it's my mom's birthday today! I'll call her in a little bit and give her the go ahead to open her presents!

flip flops and pony tails
So today I got my first comment on this blog! Funny that it was from Britt since I have my hair in a side ponytail today. (well, not so funny because I kind of told her to post it, but I didn't tell her what to say- but actually then I did end up typing it for her... nevermind)... I always think of Britt when I have my hair in a side ponytail because when we were waiting for the Jet Express to get us out of Put-in-Bay (and none too soon, might I add, or we may have lost Becca again) she complimented my side ponytail. Because it wasn't totally 8Os or anything, it was just right.
Another piece of interesting correspondence I received today was this flip-flop exchange "non-chain-letter". In theory, I am supposed to get 36 pairs of flip-flops just for sending out one. One pair, not one flip flop. I tried this with a recipe exchange a while back and I only got 2 recipes. I'll give it a try though, and if I don't get all 36 pairs of flip flops, that's ok because I don't really have room for 36 new pairs of shoes anyway...although I do have a 9 West gift card lying around here!

My First Post!
So I've been inspired by some of my ScrapVillage friends to create my own blog. Tracey sometimes tells us to look at her blog for a cute picture of her kids or a story about some fantastic chocolate-y vacation. I've been loving seeing Krista's wedding pictures and reading her honeymoon recaps. So what if I have no cute kids and my wedding stories have already been told? I wanted a blog too! Surely I'll find something interesting to write about...
